So Plan B for View B of Vogue 7464 was View C. The pattern envelope said to use tafetta. I used the rest of my orchid felt. There's something be said for following directions because the felt was too bulky and my hat has a definite lumpy, Becky-home-ecky quality to it.
These are quick iphone pics taken in my bathroom mirror. This hat is part of an outfit that I'm planning to wear to an event in November. Once I finish the dress (dove gray crepe -- not yet started!) I will properly model the whole outfit.
But in the meantime I'm kind of too excited about my new headgear to not share it. I'm a sucker for old-fashioned hats. I don't have the panache or the guts to wear them regularly, but I will use the slightest excuse to put one on. You can see the details better when the styrofoam head models it.

| Top view -- This is where you can really see the uneven lumps that should be elegantly draped in gathers. |

| Rear View -- who doesn't love a good fluffy bow? |

This hat really kind of sits on the forehead. I'm gonna need an elegant updo in the back.

I really wish that hats would come back into style. Seriously. I wish I could wear one every day. Am I the only one who feels that way?
Not sure about the front, but that bow in the back is a winner! Been reading here, v. excited, because you describe yourself as a 'new' sewist and I wanted to see how you got on. I'm more of a wannabe and I keep procrastinating. I do crafts instead of clothes, but it's clothes I mean to do... Hoping you've inspired me! Loved your grandmother's dresses. I have several items my Mom made for me that I treasure.
ReplyDeleteI like old fashioned hats, too!
ReplyDeleteI am attempting to make this hat at the moment. However, I'm confused about the 2" ribbon that is supposed to be folded, then pleated, then attached on the underneath side with elastic added in later. I am completely lost as to how this is attached or it's purpose. Can you help me?
ReplyDeleteI wish I could! I was completely confused by that too. I opted instead to just sew a few small combs to the underside so I could anchor it to my hair that way. It was a total cop out but it seems to have worked just fine. If you figure out the part with the ribbon, I'd love to hear about it!
